The Homeschool Mother's Journal: 4 May 2012

In my life this week…

Rough week. We recently traded-in our 2003 Yukon XL for a new Kia Sedona. We got it on Friday and then on Saturday we drove to Round Rock for our little nephew's birthday party. On the way back my hubby drove, but then we stopped for a potty-break and drinks. At that point, we switched--we still are an hour away from home. So I take the wheel, and I had just got one the highway not only but 10-15 mins...

What happens next is upsetting!! With a three-lane highway, I was on the very right. Driving in front of me was an old flatbed truck. Well this truck lost his spare tire. To make it short, I could not go left-- because of cars passing FAST...and I didn't have time to go right (or else I fear I would have flipped us) --so the only way was straight on. I ran over the tire. Thank God we are all okay.

I ran over it by my right-side tire... It went flat almost immediately...a detached fog light, and a protected covering slashed away from the bottom of the van. Overall, to me, it didn't seem like much damage. It could have been much, much worse.

No one got hurt, no accident with other cars, or any other cars damaged by the tire because I shred the tire that was on the ground. Anyway, we are safe, tow truck came (no spare tire in Kia Van's) --so we learned too late. It is still sitting at the dealership while we get our claim going. Unfortunately, we didn't get the information for the other driver and no one else stopped during the accident.

Thank you Lord, for keeping us safe.

In our homeschool this week…

We have about 30 more days of school for 180 day school year.  Just trying to get over that spring fever blah...and finish this year out strong.   I just signed up our older two (plus adults) to the Bible Bee Challenge. We will spend about 20 mins. per day throughout the summer studying the Word of God and to prepare for the local National Bible Bee Competition - here in San Antonio.  It will be our devotional time for 12 weeks.

My favorite thing this week was…

Being able to do a bible study at the Nursing Home for the first time.

What’s working/not working for us…

What's not working?? Not having transportation at the present moment.

Questions/thoughts I have…

There is, I have found, a fine line between being a Christian of faith, standing FIRM on ALL the Word of God, to be bold in beliefs AND being deemed Un-Christian --not kind. Sometimes you just can't win. However, I will not play the lukewarm Christian.

Thing's I am working on...

Next year's curriculum and reading lists for my boys.

Several projects....

Homeschool 8th grade/Kinder graduation
Homeschool video
Bible study for next week

I’m reading…

Finishing up Full-Time Parenting by Israel Wayne and
Family-Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham, Jr.

I’m cooking…
Monday- spaghetti
Tuesday- sandwiches
Wednesday- Burger King, unfortunately
Thursday- beef/chicken stir-fry
Friday- tacos
Saturday - BBQ

I’m grateful for...

Salvation, My husband and boys, Being alive!

I’m praying for…

Upcoming presidential race, local government voting, missionaries, my pastor and wife, family and friends.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Here are a couple of pics of the new (err...not so new) van.

So glad you and your family were not injured, how scary! It is a challenge to be without a vehicle. Hoping that all is straightened out asap. Have a great weekend!

So glad you all are safe. That accident would have scared me to death. I cringed when I saw your photos of your new van. I have a friend with a Sedona and they have been very happy with it. My daughter will be in 8th grade next year. We use SOS and enjoy it.

So sorry about your car - thankful for the safety!! Jumped over from THMJ. Thanks for sharing.

FYI - Just finished an ebook (no available yet); 30 Days of Prayer for Our Nation. Not sure why the Lord placed this topic on my heart (I am very non-political). Hope you will join the community in prayer. Love that this is already on your prayer list!

Oh, wowzers! So glad that all of you are safe and sound! How scary! I'm also without a KIA SEDONA van for a while. BIG repair! ((sigh)) (BTW, our Kia van's spare is under the van, near the back, and it cranked down. It sits in a "basket".)

All the best for the next 30 days! I know don't about you and your family, but the last 30 days are the most difficult ones to focus for us! Everyone is ready for summer vacation!

Oh goodness!!! I'm so sorry!!
I know that feeling, that pit in the stomach sinking sick feeling. =(

But like you, praise God for safety and no injuries! I hope you get your van back soon..

Thanks for the link to the Bible Bee.. I'm going to go check that out!

Thank you all for commenting. It was scary, but again I am very grateful for safety. About the spare tire...we did check in the manual to where is was located...and still no spare tire. The dealership eventually said that they now just give you a spray bottle for foam, instead of a tire. So they said... We do have two vehicles, so sharing one is a pain, but it's okay. Thankful for the blessing we do have.

@Amber -- I am so excited for the Bible Bee-- a friend said it is super intensive! The boys will have to learn about 400-500 verses I think in 12 weeks. We'll see how it goes...I will post weekly (I hope) about our Bible Bee journey this year. ;)

How frustrating to have an accident with a brand new car! We are also thankful that you are all safe! The Full-Time Parenting book sounds interesting and I may check into that one. Just stopping by from THMJ. Hope you have a better week!
