A five minute pep talk to potential homeschoolers?
26 June 2010
I would first mention that prayer and the decision about homeschooling for your family is what both parents want. I had to wait six years before my husband agreed on homeschooling our boys.
Now, the advice I give is first prayer, then research. Go to the HSLDA website!!! Everything is listed there.... State laws, Where to start advice, Advice per grade level/ school level, information galore.
1. Pray and Research State Laws and Requirements, proceed to follow
2. Pray and Research your children's learning styles, and your homeschool philosophy
3. Create a Budget
4. Look for scopes/sequences per age group/per grade (as a guideline not contract)
5. List your goals per child, per year
6. Find other HOMESCHOOL moms!! via homeschool groups, co-ops, internet forums, church, etc-- for advice and knowledge, wisdom
7. Find your curriculum, via eBay, Amazon, rainbow resources, websites, book stores, curriculum sales/conferences, garage sales, and of course the LIBRARY!!!!
8. Pray daily, have fun and enjoy your children!
My favorite websites:
a. HSLDA
b.Living Books Curriculum
c. Ambleside Online Curriculum
d. Donna Young
e. Mother of Action
f. Simply Charlotte Mason

Hi! I have an award for you on my blog! I know these awards can be a bit of a hassle at times. However, I love this award as it honors blogs of substance. I truly feel that describes your blog. :) just accept it as thanks for your blogging efforts even if you lack the time to pass it out. You deserve it. http://www.underthegoldenappletree.com/2010/06/awarding-blogs-with-substance.html

Sure thing Kathryn!! If you need anything else...just let me know! ;)
I'm not sure if anyone can help me but I am looking for the Bible memory list for 7th grade. I ordered and paid ($1,000) for all of the DVD's but did not get/order the Bible subject as I do my own but would still like to follow along with the Bible memory verses for that grade level for a couple of my kids. Can anyone help me by sending me a list of those at faithmail@frontiernet.net I called Abeka and they would not give them to me :( thank you!
Robin
