Homeschool Journal: 11 Feb 12

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

1. Three weeks ago, we moved from Schweinfurt, Germany to TX, USA.
2. Moved from one hotel to another.
3. Found a home church, house, school (smile).
4. Found the closest DQ (Dairy Queen)- 5 miles from our new home!!
5. Just completed our 1st week of homeschool for the month of Feb.
6. First field trip on the year to: San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

In our homeschool this week…

This week was more about getting back into the groove of things. We actually have a table (at this hotel) so it's been great to get organized with school without bothering other people and/or working on the floor. ;)

My oldest (13) started reading: Moby Dick and since my 10 y/o refuses to finish reading about a girl and dolphins (Island of the Blue Dolphins), he is now reading the Black Pearl (from the same author) by Scott O'Dell.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

If one child doesn't what to read a certain book, don't force it if he will read another book. Learned that lesson (so far) this year.

I am inspired by…

My friend Wendy. She is going through an unimaginable hardship any parent could face and yet, she is faithful to God. She is one the most Godly, uplifting, strong woman any person can meet. I am praying for her family daily.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Not sure about this one...We are just staying "home" this next following week. No plans of any more day trips/ field trips.

I must say though, free entrance into the Rodeo was fantastic (Dollar Day/Military Day) on Fridays --can't beat that. Although, I would have recommended you take a lunch. They wanted an arm and a leg for lunch (the prices of the food items were breath-taking SHOCKING! Oh...at least for this frugal lady. It's been awhile since we've been in the States, but gheesh!!

My favorite thing this week was…

Being on a date with my hubby and eating a fantastic meal.

What’s working/not working for us…

Not having my printer or space. In time -- I suppose.

I’m reading…

We will probably start on a series in Sunday School about Godly parenting and this book came up (Family Driven Faith). I have been reading this book off and on and now I will definitely try to finish this book. It's a VERY good book so far. I hope we can visit his church in the near future. I don't think he (Voddie Baucham Jr.) is far from San Antonio or see him at homeschool conference (or two)...

The Proverbs 31 book, by Sara Horn, is a book I got a while ago, but never had the time to start reading it. In the past, I have done a bible study on her book, Tour of Duty, and I absolutely loved it...so I think I will enjoy reading this book.

I’m praying for…

So many people and situations...

I hope it begins feeling like "home" to all of you. That is a great quote from Albert Einstein. Just stopping by from THMJ! Have a great rest of the week!
