Blog Hop #3: Theme For The Week - Why?
Why? It's probably the most frequently asked question of homeschoolers, except of course the one about socialization. So why do you home school? Are the reasons you home school today different from what they were when you first made the decision?
This blog hop is easy for me. I am a first year homeschool mom!! :) We have several reasons why we came to homeschooling.
1. Want a Biblical Foundation for our children to grow on. (MAIN REASON)
2. One-on-one care, love, and understanding.
3. Family time.
4. Academic Freedom.
As I have answered this before (and who hasn't):
I have always wanted to homeschool since my oldest went into school. His kindergarten GYM TEACHER, started an issue that my family had to go through...to see if he was ADHD. Now, the teacher was fine with him, but it was the gym teacher who pursued it. We went through the whole process, and little did I know there's not a definite yes or no answer to that question.
They (school) wanted us to put him on meds. We flat out said no. After a few months, the hype died down and his school year was ok, but left a bad taste in my mouth (sort to speak). First grade-awesome. Second grade- NOT SO AWESOME; by the end of the year, I requested to have Ethan on a IDP with the school- honestly the teacher didn't care, and my son suffered for it.
Fast foward to our trip overseas, it was our second overseas tour and with DoDDs schools. At SHAPE, Belgium the school was ok...but with all the transitioning now...we moved four times in less than three years. My children had to transfer between 3 different DODDs school in one school year.
Upon realizing that Ethan was entering in the 6th grade (middle school, yikes)---and through prayer, reading our bibles, asking about homeschooling, we took that leap of Faith this year to homeschool our boys.
I am so loving it! I have peace in my heart and thank God for allowing us to homeschool and 'home-disciple' our children. I remember reading somewhere a response public school vs. homeschool: "Why would I take my children to learn anti-God, anti-creation, anti-Christ with public schools??" ---I want my children to know Christ as their personal Saviour and grow to having a BIBLICAL worldview and not worldly environment that is in public schools.
Praise the Lord! WE are loving it! :)

Wow that is alot of school changes isn't. At least with homeschooling you live anywhere you want, can't you. :)

If you're still in Belgium and looking for a church (which I'm sure you've already found), I highly recommend the International Baptist Church in Wezembeek Oppem - we were there about 10 years ago, and we had quite a few military family friends.
