Young Minds: Numbers and Counting DVD by MathTutorDVD.com
Music by: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Brahms, Pachelbel, and Chopin! Bonus Features: Repeat Play; Guess the Animal, Connect the Dots, Picture puzzles
Young Minds: Numbers and Counting is extremely joyful to watch with my two little ones. The clarity, bright photos of the animals, short video clips, sound effects even caught the attention of my 11 year old son also. My older boy loves studying and reading about animals—so it was intriguing to view for him (even though his level of numbers is much higher).
I love the classical music integrated with the Numbers and Counting (count 1 to 10) is altogether a wonderful gift for your little ones and a wonderful gift to friends and family too.
I also enjoy that when a photo (awesome) comes up each animal in the photo is individually counted. For example, for the number 3, it shows three apples. Instead of a general three located at the upper right hand corner (for example)…It shows three apples and then counts 1, 2, 3…. Over the apples—the counting is seen and so I think makes it a better counting DVD than most others I have seen.
My only complaint is that they don’t have an ABC video~!! Of course they are MathTutorDVD.com and I am completely satisfied with Young Minds: Numbers and Counting DVD because it’s interactive, great musical background, reasonable price, and outstanding photos and videos.

On both DVD you have the same instructor and basically he and a dry erase board. He has about 6+ word problems for each section and goes through each problem individually. He explains the word problems very well, but I feel he goes a fairly fast-paced when speaking; otherwise after a few rewinds—going through the problems are great.
I found that I like to have the boys listen to the MathTutorDVD.com make sure they understand the problem and what it was asking…then paused the DVD (so that they can complete on their own) and then play the DVD to see if they got the same answer as the DVD instructor. If it’s a new concept (e.g. for my 3 grader) going through the entire problem and then re-doing the problem on his own….it’s a wonderful feeling when they (he) grasped the math concept.
The other thing I want to mention is that the MathTutoDVD.com does not actually list a recommended grade level or age with the DVD. So my 6th grader did not get much out of this particular DVD, but I am sure he would with Pre-Algebra and so on. For my third grader, he can use this now (for review on some sections) and can use next year also for others math concepts.
I would recommend this 2-Set Word Problem MathTutor DVD as a supplement to your math course; hence, its product line being labeled as Math Tutor DVD. All sections of the DVD seem to help and I do believe that you (student/teacher) do get a better understanding of math through the examples given and they are clearly demonstrated by the instructor.
I am definitely adding MathTutorDVD fan page to my Facebook page and will definitely use MathTutorDVD again when my boys get into High School Math levels...I am glad that even though Math is not {MY} best subject, products like MathTutorDVD.com is a God send to those who will homeschool through high school years. Thanks for the DVDs Mr. Gibson! :)
