About Our Homeschool

13 July 2009

So what should be the name of our homeschool? Should it be of the name of our street, our town, maybe our last name? I didn't want anything too feminine because our homeschool consist of one mom and four boys. LOL!! Here is goes....My hubby and I wanted a strong name. Someone the boys can look up too as a role model...to learn about life as a Christian...etc. I was looking at quotes when I came across; Henry (Harry) Allan Ironside. I love his quote, "Christ is a substitute for everything, but nothing is a substitute for Christ."

We (family) came up with a name and agreed for our homeschool; Ironside Christian Academy. The background of the name comes from the late Dr. H. A. Ironside. He was a man of God, loyal, faith, soul-winning man. When I think of a Christian, he comes to mind. We all strive to be Christ-like and hence, the name for our school: Ironside Christian Academy.

Some of his quotes that I love:

1. "Christ is a substitute for everything, but nothing is a substitute for Christ."

2. "If lips and life do not agree, the testimony will not amount to much."

3. "Faith is to rest, not in the best of God's servants, but in His unchanging Word."

4. "All self-effort is but sinking sand. Christ alone is the Rock of our salvation."

And our school motto comes from him too.."Faith is to rest, not in the best of God's servants, but in His unchanging word." H.A. Ironside. I love the verse Hbr 13:8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, And to day, And for ever. ---That is an awesome, wonderful statement.

Also, our mascot is "Ironside Knights"~to go with putting on the Armour of God-as well. When you have Jesus, you are FULLY armed & protected!

Hi!
My name is Jessica Wiese. I am a music teacher, and wife of a disabled veteran. Our experiences inspired us to create a business where we link music teachers and students online in an interactive classroom. I had to leave some students of mine the last time we moved, and the students continued to study with me via skype. We decided every family that moves a lot should be able to stay with the teacher they connect with too, so we decided to make this a reality - but better, with interactive learning tools on screen to make it as though the teacher is right there with you.

I created a project on kickstarter, and realized funding is hard. Exposure is hard. Our goal feels impossible to me but I'm doing everything I can to expose us. Advice was given to me to reach out to blogs. To be honest, I don't know what that means. I don't have a blog, a twitter, etc. Just a facebook that I've used to keep in touch with others.

Your blog looks beautiful, and I'm wondering if there's any way you can help me expose our project. I think it could give a beautiful experience to a lot of people. When others back us, they receive music videos or even lessons.

Also, if I am completely misunderstanding what was meant when people told me to find blogs of people that might be interested in you, please let me know that too, as I am not trying to bother anyone, just trying to make a dream come true and give back to the community at the same time.

Here is our project, Thank you for your time and please let me know if you have any advicehttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1826558297/virtulessons
